GAMES ROCK !!!!
WHY??? - BECAUSE
GAMES ARE FUN!!
The United States Pony Clubs' Games Program is intended to provide reinforcement of the
riding skills taught in Pony Club in a more relaxed environment than the formal lesson in
equitation. As the games players become more confident, competition becomes part of
the program and adds a new dimension of incentive and excitement. Perhaps the most
interesting part of games instruction lies in the fact that the riders seldom realize that
their riding confidence and skills are improving.
Why do games??
Games can provide a way to
rehabilitate a rider injured in a jumping accident or one who feels overfaced attempting a
cross-country course beyond his or her pony's ability.
Games are an activity that
the newest unrated rider can enjoy.
Games teach an unruly and
disobedient pony to become more obedient and responsive.
Games teach cooperation through the medium of team
play and team discipline.
Games are fun to watch and
require no schooling of the spectator; the principles are quickly apparent to an
inexperienced eye.
Parents of games players
usually see a beneficial carry-over to other activities, and as a result they will be
staunch supporters of the program once they become acquainted with it. Parents have
written the rules and guides for games, invented inexpensive equipment, given untold hours
of work and thought, and have run all the Regional and Championship competitions as
volunteers, because they believe in the benefits of games to encourage Riding For Fun.
Notice:
This web site has been prepared by dedicated Mounted Games enthusiasts and supporters who
are part of the USPC Games Family. We hope that the site provides useful information, and
increases the exposure to and enthusiasm for Games. Every effort has been made to be
certain that all the information in the site is accurate and consistent with current USPC
Games Rules; however, the information in this site should be considered informative but
not authoritative. The official and authoritative sources for all rallies remain the USPC
Handbook and Rules for Games Competition 2009 and 2007 Horse Management Rulebook.
The events
and competitions listed in the Calendar page are all
placed there for the purpose of promoting Mounted
Games as a discipline in the United States. Placement
of a non-Pony Club event on the Calendar page does not
constitute an endorsement of the sponsoring
organization or event, nor have any efforts been made
to verify safety issues; rather, it only constitutes a
central announcement site for Mounted Games events
within the United States. Anyone who may be interested
in these events should investigate the sponsoring
organizations and events themselves.
Questions or comments about the USPC Games
website should be forwarded to the USPC Games Chair,
Jim Ligon.
